What is glucosamine?
Glucosamine is a natural substance found in the body’s cartilage. It plays an important role in the health and resiliency of joints and cartilage.* Nutritional supplements source glucosamine from chitin, a substance that forms the skeleton of shellfish.

Natural glucosamine levels decline with age and may lead to joint discomfort. Natural glucosamine is designed to support joint health to help maintain an active lifestyle.*

What is chondroitin and what does it do?
Chondroitin is a vital compound in connective tissue that is partly responsible for building and supporting the basic substance of cartilage.* Chondroitin is one of the molecules that helps attract and hold water, which aids in keeping joint membranes fluidized.* This can have a rejuvenating effect on cells and tissues and assist in joint mobility and range of motion.* Joint tissue contains chondroitin, but its natural production declines with age. Supplemental chondroitin can help support normal joint tissue functioning.*

Why is glucosamine HCl and not glucosamine sulfate used?
Both forms of glucosamine have been used extensively in clinical trials with excellent results. Glucosamine HCl is used because it is about 25% more pure than glucosamine sulfate and is a more usable form of glucosamine by the body. In fact, the National Institutes of Health is currently conducting a large scale glucosamine clinical trial using glucosamine HCI, not glucosamine sulfate. Additionally, unlike glucosamine sulfate, the HCl form contains only trace amounts of sodium and no sulfur, which is important to many glucosamine users who are concerned about their sodium intake, and the possible interference of sulfur with certain medications they may be taking.
